Highly accurate: 2D and 3D calibration plates for automation

Calibration plates and dummy chips are important tools for the calibration of optical measurement systems in pick-and-place machines. With their help, the user conducts a machine capability analysis at specified time intervals to determine whether the actual position of the electronic components to be positioned differs from the target position.

IMT specialises in the production of large-format substrates between 9 x 9 inches and 32 x 24 inches (228 x 228 mm and 812 x 609 mm), for which it is not possible to use current standard formats. Of course, smaller elements can also be supplied if required by the customer.

In other optical systems they are used, for example, as Hartmann plates for the identification of imaging errors in the optical system.

3D calibration structures

In addition to traditional 2D structures (chrome on glass), IMT can also produce 3D structures as calibration standard. In this case, the structure can be used as a mechanical reference for determining volumes and/or surfaces.

IMT-DS

On planar surfaces, reflection follows the law of reflection: The angle of incidence, in relation to the plane of incidence, is equal to the angle of reflection. For many applications in machine vision and 3D measurement technology, this relationship is extremely disruptive.
Therefore, elements which must meet the following conditions are used for the calibration of the optical system:

  • Best possible reflection
  • Homogeneous energy distribution of the reflected beam (Lambert)
  • Microstructures with very well dispersed edges (light-dark transitions)

IMT-DS (diffuse surface) meets these requirements and provides a cost-effective alternative to known materials such as Nextrema or Zerodur. IMT-DS can be processed on all planar optical substrates. This means that no high costs are incurred for unnecessarily expensive materials.
